Industrial Processing

The forest products processing industry is essentially wood processing and its main products are: beams, slats, planks, planks, parquet boards and beams.

The establishment of the forestry industry complies with Decree no. 22/2014 of 16 May, which approves the Regulation for the Licensing of industrial activity. Thus, industries are classified as large, medium, small and micro-sized, as per paragraph 1 of Article 4 of the aforementioned Decree. The assumptions in numbers 2 and 3 are also valid in the forest industry.

Mozambique has an industrial park of around 500 wood processing units, with 251 sawmills, 38 industrial carpentry and 188 artisanal carpentry.

Most of these industries are located in the center and south of the country, specifically in the provinces of Sofala (62), Zambézia (66), Gaza (139) and Maputo (52).

The greater incidence of industries in the central zone is due to the existence of greater potential and forestry resources, and the south zone is the main gateway to the international market.
